KingKaka

biography

KINGKAKA's story.

King Kaka is a Kenyan artiste specializing in the genre Hiphop music. He was born Kennedy Ombima , as the last of three boys to Mr. and Mrs Ombima. He attended St. Johns Primary School for his primary school education and later on graduated to Eastleigh High School, where he was selected as the senior entertainment prefect. During his tenure as the entertainment captain, King Kaka initiated major talent competitions and initiatives, amongst students at Eastleigh High School as well as other neighboring secondary schools. After completing high school in 2005, King Kaka’s passion towards music caught the attention of the then high profile music producer DJ Loop who later signed him to his recording company Sneed Music, for a two year contract. It is during this period that King Kaka’s artistry developed, working alongside established acts at the time such as Afro-R&B singers Harry Kimani and Anto Neo soul, as well as fellow rappers like Abbas and Chiwawa among others. In 2008 King Kaka recorded and released his debut album; 'Tales of Kaka Sungura' which featured hit singles like 'Niko kwa jam Nakam' and 'Dodoma' ft Harry Kimani. The latter track received an overwhelming positive response from across the continent, despite having been written and performed in Swahili. After the success of his debut effort, King Kaka has maintained his focus towards music and has gone ahead to release two more albums and over '100' songs in form of mix tapes and collaborations. This focus has catapulted him to be one of the most sought after artistes within the wider East African region. .

Style of Music
King Kaka's style of music has been greatly influenced by the sounds of poetry over a rhythmic beat, which emerged from the inner cities and American projects. However, his impeccable craftsmanship has seen him blending this American style of music to the African folk sound, laced by lyrics that reflect the everyday struggles and triumphs of an urban youth. An accomplished storyteller and spoken word poet, King Kaka uses these two ingredients in his music to present social commentary, while sprinkling wordplays, similes and metaphors in between his hard hitting punch lines, to create an unforgettable entertainment value.

Philanthropy, Projects and Entrepreneurship
Besides music, King Kaka is a video director and an executive producer. He is also an actor and has been featured on various local TV shows such as Machachari, Higher Learning, Vioja Mahakamani, Mali, and the comical sitcom Comedy Show on NTV. On 18th April 2011, a reality TV talk show dubbed 'Matatu' was launched on Kiss TV and King Kaka was commissioned to represent the views that would be presented on the show's different episodes, in form of Rap music. In May 2015, King Kaka was a mentor on the hit show Maisha Superstar and his mentee, Phy Ngetich won the grand prize and has gone on to launch her debut album under King Kaka’s mentorship which is doing well. In 2010, King Kaka launched an initiative dubbed the Dreams Campaign an organization that focuses on the fight against social vices like child molestation, and gender violence. Under this initiative, King Kaka together with the former national soccer captain, Musa Otieno launched a football clinic to inspire kids at various children's home around the city. Later on in 2013 he launched yet another initiative titled 'Tubonge' which aims at giving the youth a platform to air their views.
